The Riviera Maya

We Are One Travel went to the Riviera Maya this last week to find out more about the area so we can serve your travel needs best. We did many hotel inspections, tried some new activities, ate some wonderful meals and enjoyed the turquois water that the region is famous for. It was a wonderful adventure and we want to share some photos and experiences with you here today.

Our host hotel on this trip was the Barcelo Maya Palace. We stayed in the Junior Suite with ocean view and premium services. This hotel was wonderful as it had so many different room categories and separate hotels on site to fit all budgets. There were actually 5 different hotels on site; Maya Beach, Caribe Beach, Colonial, Tropical and the Palace. One could wander from each hotel to the next, dining at the different restaurants, enjoying the bars and swimming areas, etc...We dined at a different specialty restaurant each night and enjoyed non-motorized water sports, the swim up bars in the pools and the beach during the day.

I took a day off to visit Maroma Beach and did a snorkeling outing to two different sites from a comfortable catamaran. The guides were friendly, bilingual and offered us cold beverages constantly. After the snorkeling, we did some flying about on a spinnaker, a type of sail that has a special harness fitted to it. It flies out behind the catamaran and one sits in the harness and floats or flies about. Someone usually pulls on a rope that is attached to make it 'more fun' by tossing you about, but I just loved to sit there quietly and fly...so peaceful.

We visited so many lovely hotels such as the El Dorado Seaside, the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum, the Catalonia Royal Tulum, the Aventura Spa Palace and the Occidental Grand Xcaret. All of these hotels had their specialties and between them all, offered something for each interest type. For example, El Dorado Seaside was a unique experience in that it was adults only and wonderfully attended. One is met with cold, scented towels at the door, a calming and non-traditional check-in experience, elegant grounds and full service wherever you look. Swim up rooms, delightful beach with cozy beach beds, and concierge service around every corner.  The Principe Tulum had an on-site Dolphin pool where you can play and swim with dolphins. The Catalonia Royal was a luxurious, adults only resort that was set in the middle of a jungle with deluxe accommodations, elegant decor and gentle, relaxing atmosphere. Gentle, tinkling music could be heard as one walks through the slate covered pathways to hidden lounges where exotic and tasty drinks are served. The Aventura Spa had amazing spa treatments from hydrotherapy to couples massage. The presidential suite there was amazing and the property was tasteful and quiet. Our final hotel inspection was at the interesting Occidental Grand Xcaret. As it sits right next door to Xcaret (EshCaret), one gets a lovely discount when visiting the park and you can float down the river from the lobby to the Xcaret property for your visit. Monkeys, flamingos and other wild life abound at this immense jungle surrounded property and one can find quiet pools, dance pools and exclusive areas as well for those that want their privacy. An inner bay just off the ocean allows one to snorkel right off the beach and enjoy the incredible views from one of the restaurants.

It was an unforgettable trip to the Riviera Maya and we are so happy to have been able to see more of the vast area around Cancun in order to be able to offer you the experience that you are looking for on your next visit.
